finding the right PATH to art college might feel like waling through a dark forest

You / your child decided it is time to join the prestigious and wonderful world of art.

Your initial feeling of excitement probably slowly blends with a crawling concern about the future. There is a tremendous task standing in front of you: now you have to find the best-fitting school, make a portfolio and succeed in vigorous examinations from prominent professors – and all that while the deadlines are fast approaching.

Suddenly you find yourself overwhelmed by tsunami of questions. How do you find a suitable art program for your skills? At what timepoint should you start with preparation for the entrance exams? Which city will ensure the best opportunities for emerging artists during their studies? What will the future in art look like? It can feel like time slips between your fingers as if it was a sand while you struggle to orient yourself in the universe of art education.

The cost of education is always increasing to unreasonable heights. In parts of the world such as the UK or the USA the cost per year can easily be 20 000 $ per year. When you start off as an artist, with an uncertain financial future the last thing you need is to launch the career laden with a crushing student debt.

Luckily, there is a better way.

Just imagine feeling the safety and empowerment when instead of spending a fortune on an unnecessary school fees, you invest into preparing for the kind of colleges that do not take in students based on the size of their wallet, but instead judge them for their talent. This sounds like a fairytale but it's more realistic than you might think!

I‘m talking about a place where all education is free, where schools have centuries of tradition and a rich assortment of high quality art programs. It is a place with a vibrant art-market that seeks the artworks of young creative students. Here you can learn the artistry, connect with interesting people and develop into an independent strong individual that has the power to conquer the art world. I am of course talking about the fairytale land known as Germany.

artmargo personalized educational consulting:

my services

The services I provide are not a typical commercial portfolio coaching that  gives narrow-sighted tips for neat presentation. The German art professors almost always see right through these “polished” portfolios and often conclude that they have no idea what the prospective student is capable of doing. In essence, these progessional portfolios are not a representation of you.

In my sessions, I use my experience of collaborating with German professors and artists to inspect your work in depth. I always consider your individual artistic expression and simultaneously explain how professional artists think and work. Accordingly to your personal requirements, we go together through admission and enrolment process. This can consist of choosing the art college, preparing necessary qualifications and ultimately making a plan with which you can apply to multiple art schools at once and meet all deadlines without stress.

choose passing art schools

There are 26 state-run art schools in Germany and each of them has it's own manifolds ways of operating. They differ in approaches to education, art medias, locations and many other aspects. Finding out the differences is not easy as they are not listed anywhere in the internet - only a direct, first-hand experience and connections to artists gives a truthful overview. That's exactly what I have: with my help, you will find the art school(s) that match your character and abilities!

making an application plan

The unique feature of artmargo consulting is making a realistic plan that consists of multiple main applications and a back-up plan. That includes a timetable with all deadlines for applications, preparation timeline, traveling, learning the language (in necessary) and alternative scenarios. This approach will increase your enrollment chances to its maximum.

preparing portfolio

There is 2 rules that apply to all applications: 1) The earlier you start with your portfolio, the better. 2) Have a professional who knows the application process to guide you. Why? Well, an art portfolio is not about neatly putting together a few artworks - it's a body of work that has two jobs: to present an honest summary of your mind/character while at the same time also impressing a jury. For it to work, you have to know what German art professors want and how to put it together - and that is exactly what we are going to do.

Exams and more

There will be a day that decides your (near) future. On this examination day, you have to be as little stressed and as creative as possible. There are multiple types of exams and I will make sure that you know as much as possible about the process, including: how to present yourself to a jury, theoretical knowledge that is useful at the interview, how to phrase the answers jury's questions, German art vocabulary, psychological tricks to boost the creativity at almost stressful moments or how to deal with German bureaucracy when starting your studies.

why should you study in germany?

The decision to move in Germany a big step for most of foreign students. I know this stress very well as I had to go through it by myself. You might have a feeling that Germany is a scary unknown world. Or you maybe you consider your study options in other countries. This whole ‘choosing/deciding/enrolling’ process is quite confusing, because by stepping into this nuanced ‘academical’ world of education, it is hard to even know what information to search for

There are many reasons why German art academies have such a big portion of international students. German artistic education has a very long tradition reaching back to the 17th century with Nürnberg’s academy and has been actively developing since into a world-renown network of institutions with remarkably innovative approaches to education. Here are some salient points that explain why German art schools have a special place in the world of artistic education:
